CWRU Radio Station WRUW-FM 91.1 Presents Its Annual Studio-A-Rama With Free Music All Day

Public Squares

Sat 9/6 @ 1-11PM

Case Western Reserve University’s campus radio station WRUW-FM 91.1 is a leader in so many ways, and I’m not just saying that because I had a program there while in school at CWRU in the ’70s. It debuted in 1967 and became a leader in the vibrant local college radio scene, helping to break indie rock bands that later went on to fame and fortune. Its diverse programming made a local celebrities of show hosts who programmed specialties ranging from bluegrass Broadway tunes, new age to death metal.

And in 1982, it launched its annual Studio-A-Rama, an all-day, all-evening free concert taking place in the courtyard behind the Mather Building where its studio is located. It celebrated its 38th year in 2019, then took a pandemic break for a couple of years and came back last year.

It’s back once again with its usual lineup of local and regional bands, with a couple of national headliners. Teamonade kicks things off at 2pm, followed by Napsack at 2:45, The Village Bicycle at 3:30, Cowboy Princess Brigade at 4:15, Public Squares at 5, Cruelster at 5:45, Bwak Dragon at 6:30, honeybee at 7:15, Disintegration at 8, and headliners Cincinnati’s Artificial Go at 9pm and Louisville, Kentucky’sWombo at 10.

And as we said above, it’s free and it’s family-friendly. Bring a picnic or buy some food from one of the food trucks that will be on site. There are also a ton of eateries nearby. Just don’t bring glass bottles or alcoholic beverages into the courtyard. The concert will also be live on WRUW’s YouTube channel as well as on the station itself.
