Akron hasn’t been celebrating Pride for as long as Cleveland or Columbus, but in just a few years, its festival has grown into a major daylong event with a several spin-off activities.
Akron Pride opens with the Equity March, which steps off at 10am in downtown Akron. Starting at 11am Main Street Akron will be filled with action until late in the evening. The Lock 3 Stage, the Cascade Stage and the Lock 4 Smuckers Stage will host more than 20 acts, including DJs, drag artists, comedians, the Millennial Theatre Project and even the Cleveland Cavaliers Dance Team, who kick things off, ending with fireworks at 9:30.
There’ll be a kids’ area, vendors, information booths and food trucks, making for a full, exhausting but full day of camaraderie and friendship. For more information, go to akronpridefestival.org/home.
