The Waterloo Arts Fest Is Back, Showcasing Local Music, Art & Food

Sat 6/30 @ noon-7PM

A half-mile stretch of North Collinwood’s Waterloo Road, from Calcutta to E. 161st will be closed off Saturday afternoon for the 16th annual Waterloo Arts Fest, which seems to be packed with more activities, vendors and performances every year.

Wander around and catch music on ten different stages — from African drumming and dance to polka to Latin jazz to the usual batch of indie rock bands and singer/songwriters. You may run into street performers such as stiltwalkers and giant puppets on your way from one stage to the next.

The street will be lined with local vendors offering their handmade products — both artists who work in the neighborhood and visiting artists — as well as various kinds of food. (There are food trucks too). And there are plenty of opportunities to make your own art and try out some of the media such as weaving, painting and ceramics that the local studios teach.

Want to shop for records? In addition to Blue Arrow Records, the street’s brick-and-mortar record store where CoolCleveland’s Anastasia Pantsios will be signing copies of her photo book Girls to the Front: 40 Years of Women in Rock from 2-5pm, the Third Man Records Rolling Record Truck will be in the Beachland parking lot and the now-closed Waterloo record store Music Saves will have a booth in the Beachland hallway. There you’ll also find the Rock Hall Archives promoting their search for homemade film and video donations from 2-6pm.

Living up to its name as the Waterloo Arts District, look for Waterloo Arts Gallery’s annual juried show in three different galleries. There will also be a temporary art installation created by the first Waterloo Arts Fest artists-in-residence, Angela Oster and Susie Underwood.

The festival is free.
