Photographer Shares Photos of His Late Wife’s Breast Cancer Fight

Wed 4/12 @ 5-7:30PM

Photographer Angelo Merendino had just married his wife Jennifer in 2007 when their lives were upended by one of those unlucky, out-of-the-blue situations: young, healthy, athletic Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer. Initially cancer-free, the disease came roaring back, and four years later, she passed away at the age of 40.

As they fought the ravages — physical, emotional and financial — of the disease, the couple decided that Angelo would document their struggle to provide encouragement to others in their position and remind people to how life’s ephemerality.

“A few days before Jen passed, I asked her if I could start a non-profit in her honor,” recalls Angelo. “We had been on the receiving end of considerable kindness and generosity, and I wanted to keep the circle from breaking. Jen smiled and looked deep into my eyes, nodding with her approval.  And so began The Love You Share.”

The photos have been widely exhibited to draw attention to the foundation, and now they’re going on view again for a special short run at the Foothill Galleries in Cleveland Heights as a fundraiser for The Love You Share. One hundred percent of the proceeds from sales of the photos will go to the foundation to provide gift cards to breast cancer patients.

The show’s opening reception is Wednesday April 12 @ 5-7:30pm. In addition there’ll be a special donor cocktail reception Saturday April 15 @ 5-7pm for anyone who donates at least $50 by April 9. The show will be on view through April 22.
