Quire Cleveland Sings Monteverdi at St. John Cathedral

Fri 9/30 @ 7:30PM

Italian 16th-17th-century composer Claudio Monteverdi straddled the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Quire Cleveland straddles quite a few more, performing nearly a millennia of vocal music.

But it’s Monteverdi they’ll focus on for the first performance of their ninth season, taking place at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist downtown. There — an appropriate setting indeed! — artistic director Ross W. Duffin will lead the ensemble in Monteverdi’s 1610 piece Mass of the Most Blessed Virgin. They’ll also perform some of his madrigals, restyled as devotional works.

The program is free.
