The Corn Potato String Band, a trio of acoustic guitar/fiddle/mandolin/banjo pickers out of the Detroit area, are yet another band enthralled with the simplicity and charm of old-time American folk music.

Their bio claims “Essentially unable to cope with modern life, the members of this band are outcasts of society who survive by playing the lost music of the flatlands where they were raised.” Whether that’s for real or just hipster posturing, the band has toured the U.S., as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe and India, with their Southern-style ballads, dance tunes and gospel, their unvarnished harmonies and their impressive, award-winning instrumental work.

They’ll be performing at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall as part of its Voices in the Valley series. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
