NEOMFA is a program that draws on the resources of four Northeast Ohio universities to award a degree in creative writing, in fiction, nonfiction, poetry or playwriting.
For the 11th year, Tremont’s convergence-continuum theater is hosting the NEOMFA Playwrights Festival to produce the works of the students in the playwriting program.
This year, it will cover two weekends, with two plays on week 1 and one on week 2. On week 1, theatergoers can see Eric Mansfield’s Home Movie, in which our adult children get a shock when watching their parents’ old home movie; and Laura Barbieri’s We Call It Family, looking at the issues facing foster and adoptive parents.
The following week, David Hansen’s full-length play Scenes from a Night’s Dream takes over the stage. Its synopsis says, “A young person troubled by manic dreams and sexual anxieties struggles to understand what is real, and even later as a successful adult is haunted by his childhood mistakes. The dream world creeps into the waking.”
