When it was first rumored a couple of years ago that the ArtCraft Building, long-time home to many artist studios, was being sold, some of the artists began talking about their next move. And about a year ago a group of them moved to the Twist Drill building about a mile away where the owner made new studio spaces on the fifth floor. And their move attracted still more artists to the building.
Last Christmas, they held their long-running Artcraft artists sale in the Twist’s second floor event space, and this past weekend, they held an open studio event so that visitors could stop by their spaces and see all the work they’ve created and projects they’re working on. The clean, new, light-filled spaces and the energized community of artists counter the narrative of doom that has surrounded the conversion of the ArtCraft Building into Cleveland Police Headquarters.
