Singer/Songwriter Anne E. DeChant Imagines 2019 at the Akron Civic Theatre

Sat 12/29 @ 8PM

Although she’s lived in Nashville for a decade now, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Anne E. DeChant has maintained strong ties and a devoted fan base in northeast Ohio, returning frequently for extended stays and multiple concerts in different settings.

It’s been nearly 30 years now since she burst on the scene as one of three frontwomen in the folk rock ensemble Odd Girl Out, which packed local clubs in the early-mid ’90s. Since the band’s breakup in 1997, DeChant has been honing her skills as a singer and songwriter, developing a confident style that blends accessible pop music with deeply personal lyrics. Her most recent release, the six-song EP Lost in Kentucky, which came out earlier this year, adds to her impressive catalog of six previous albums.

She’ll be performing at the Akron Civic Theatre as part of its cabaret series, The Club @ the Civic, where the audience is onstage with the performer in the perfect intimate setting perfect for DeChant to share her music with fans — and perhaps some future fans? She’s dubbed it “Imagine 2019” and says “I’ll be sharing songs about ordinary people faced with and doing extraordinary things, every day, all around us and including us. How can a better understanding of each other unite us?”

And speaking of understanding and unity, Akron folk musician Zach Friedhof, whose career and music are dedicated to both, is the opening act.

Tickets are $20.
