Karamu and Dobama Host an Afternoon Honoring Toni Morrison

Sat 11/7 @ 1PM

Author Toni Morrison made a long journey from her birth in 1931 in Lorain, Ohio to her Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. Her first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970. She passed away in 2019 at the age of 88, leaving a long list of acclaimed works behind her.

This year Ohio is honoring Morrison with a series of events from February 18, 2026 to February 18, 2027 (Morrison was born on February 18), called Beloved: Ohio Celebrates Toni Morrison. As part of that series, Karamu House and Dobama Theatre are hosting a one-day event. It will include selections from Morrison’s poetry, plays and dramatic adaptations of passages from her works including The Bluest Eye, Dreaming of Emmett, and Desdemona, emphasizing the ongoing influence she’s had on literature, theater, and Black life and identity.

The program takes place at Karamu House. It’s “pay what you can.” Reserve your spot HERE.
