While outdoor music is gone for the season, there’re a lot of happenings on Waterloo to check out during the monthly Walk All Over Waterloo art walk.
Start at ceramics gallery Brick Ceramic + Design where local superstar curator Mary Urbas has put together at show called FUNKtional Clay, promoted as “bringing fun and FUNKtion together.” You’re bound to see some creative and unexpected works.
Waterloo Arts will also be opening a new show called Familiar Strangers, featuring work by Cullen Houser, Josh Luboski and Will Wilson. Stop in from 6-9pm.
Across the street and upstairs at William Busta Projects a new show of work by Kevin Hogan called Unique Impressions: Print Work on Paper 1982-2026 will be opening from 5:30-8:30PM. It includes selection of Hogan’s print work on paper from his earliest explorations of intaglio, silkscreen and relief, to recent lithographic works. Hogan was known in the local art scene as the gallery directort at NOVA and being involved in the founding of SPACES Gallery before moving at Asheville, NC.
At Praxis Fiber Workshop’s Gallery, you can explore M. Carmen Lane’s solo show Topsy Turvy, or Your Story began Before You Were Born (and a note of Bierut). The artist statement says it “returns us to the conversation at the intersections of birth, place and death; the impact of the Great Migration on Black Maternal health.” Lane is both an artist and birthworker; and they will be speaking at the gallery at 5:30 if you want to learn more about the show’s background.
The music goes indoors at the Treelawn where, from 6-8pm, you can check out the Mars Express and Nature Nvoke for free.
