Cleveland’s BlueWater Chamber Orchestra opens its season at the Church of the Covenant in University Circle with a program they’re calling “Awakening.” They describe it as “musical awakening—comprising new perspectives, renewed traditions, and reflection.”
The concert opens with Testament from Vishwas by 43-year-old Indian-American composer Reena Esmail, who incorporates influences form Western classical music and Indian musical traditions into her work. That piece will be followed by 20th-century German-American composer Lukas Foss’s 1986 Renaissance Concerto, with rising young flute player Anthony Trionfo, now in his early 30s, making his debut with the ensemble. It concludes with Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen. The orchestra’s artistic director Daniel Meyer conducts the evening.
