The theme of the 36th annual Berea Arts Fest, taking place for the second year at Coe Lake, is “freedom of expression.”
“What better way to celebrate the spirit of America’s 250th anniversary than with a day devoted to creativity, individuality and the freedom to express yourself?” they say. Certainly it’s better than the woebegone “Great American State Fair” in D.C. which was mostly devoid of creativity and the arts (and attendees—there will be way more in Berea).
More than 130 local and national artists will be set up along the lakeshore, offering work in virtually every medium you can think of, and some of them will be demonstrating how their creative process and doing live painting. There’ll also be opportunities to take part in interactive art-making, working on a community art installation, and a Kids’ Creative Station whee kids 2-12 can make some art of their own.
There will be two stages of music: a band stage from 10am-5pm featuring bands such as the JiMiller Band, LoConti, Martini Five-O and Cowboy Princess Brigade, and an acoustic stage from noon-4pm including a drum circle with Don Davis and a songwriters showcase. There’ll also be dancers from the North Pointe Ballet, strolling performers and a drum circle with Don Davic, a songwriter showcase.
There’ll be even more food this year, with everything from seafood to southern-style food to Asian cuisine, as well as snacks and drinks to fuel your day out. Admission is free.
