CAN (Collective Arts Network) Journal debuted in 2012 following conversations among small arts groups about how to promote their programs and events more efficiently by working together. It will celebrate its 15th year in January. It’s now a nonprofit organization that publishes a thick, full-color free magazine quarterly and a digital newsletter every Tuesday, and publishes additional stories on its website.
With each issue it hosts a launch party where members of the visual arts community can gather, network and hang out, and organizations can pick up a box of magazines to take back with them. The Fall 2026 issue will first be available at Larchmere Arts on Friday August 28 from 6-8pm.
Among the stories in the new issues are the revival of the Sankofa Black Art Expo in September and the regional Risograph publishing scene, along with profiles of Mary K. Thomas, Judy Takacs and Michael Loderstedt, as well as the regular event listings and previews from member organizations of their fall events.
Publisher/editor Michael Gill will make his usual updates on things going on with CAN including its upcoming benefit. It’s free and open to all.
