A veritable who’s who of the local blues (and blues-adjacent and blues-respecting) music scene will be gathering at the Treelawn Music Hall for the Lockwood Music Festival and Awards Ceremony, named after legendary Cleveland blues musician Robert Lockwood Jr, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 91. The festival will honor what would’ve been Lockwood’s 111th birthday on March 27.

The theme of this year’s event is “A Salute to the Schwartz Brothers, Glenn and Eugene.” The brothers played for decades around the area, mostly as a trio with Glenn on guitar and Gene on bass, until Glenn’s death in November 2018 (Gene continues to play around the area.) Glenn had played with an early version of the James Gang in northeast Ohio before decamping for the West Coast where he joined Pacific Gas & Electric, who had a minor chart hit “Are You Ready?” in 1970 before Glenn left the band, returned to Northeast Ohio, and performed with a religious cult band before rejoining the local music scene in the 90s.

The festival will feature a screening of a 10-minute video about the Schwartz brothers, with material from their family archives.

Gene will be performing with his G Force Band with special guitar Charlie Christopherson. Among the area musicians who’ll perform are Travis Haddix, DC Carnes, Michael Calhoun of The Dazz Band, Bob Frank, Ray DeForest, Taylor Lamborn, Austin Walkin’ Cane, Colin Dussault and many more. They’re promised than as many as 50 musicians could be gracing the stage! The show will be emceed by Tod Meany.
