There’s nothing blooming outside right now, with the snow and ice blocking even those early-appearing snowdrops. But the Cleveland Botanical Garden will be abloom with color and scent starting this Saturday when its annual orchid show opens.
This year’s theme is Orchid Rodeo, so this wildly diverse flower will be displayed in the contest of the west, with cacti, greenery and wide-open landscapes, and props and settings that evoke the spirit of the west, such as a old-school saloon, a rodeo and a gold-rush mining camp. More than 3,000 orchids and 100 varieties will be everywhere throughout the indoor gardens and glasshouses.
“Orchids aren’t all fragile — they’re fierce,” says CBG director of Botanical Garden Horticulture Amanda Hannah in the show’s press release. “They grow on every continent except Antarctica, thrive in some of the harshest conditions on earth, and somehow still bring unexpected color even to the desert.”
There will also be special events throughout the run of the show including a preview event Friday February 13 @ 6:30-9:30pm, and a Valentine’s Day afterhours party in Saturday February 14 @ 6:30-9:30pm.
