Poets Reflect on Art at Heights Arts’ Ekphrastacy

Thu 2/19 @ 7PM

One of Heights Arts’ regular events is called Ekphrastacy: its unusual name refers to spoken word artists and poets performing their response to works of art in the gallery. It does one such event to accompany the run of each show.

Currently on view in the main gallery is Consider Fires, a group show curated by multimedia artist/educator Gina Washington, that looks at the destructive and constructive powers of flame. The Spotlight gallery features work by self-taught artist Josh Chefitz, whose mixed media, collage-like work involves ink, gel and pen drawings on handmade paper which he cuts apart and layers.

New Heights Poet Laureate Michelle R. Smith hosts the evening, joined by Jennifer Hallaman, Jeweled Justice, and Sujata Lakhe, as they share their responses to the work in these shows.  The event is free but it’s popular so RSVP here.
