Since its founding in 2018 as Cleveland’s only Cleveland’s only professional Spanish-language theater group, LatinUs Theatre Company has been showcasing a huge diversity of work by Hispanic playwrights, ranging from plays with serious political messages to extravagant fantasies to shows about characters’ personal issues.
Now it’s time for another comedy. In Vuela Alto, Mamá by Patricia Suarexz two estranged sisters reunite at their mother’s wake, and thanks to a host of problematic characters, including a gambling father, a film-star ex-husband, a klepto hairdresser and a recovering ex-husband, encounter chaos, disarray and laughter. Kivin Bauzó directs the play which features LatinUs founder Monica Torres, Luisana Saturno, Maricris Gutierrez, Maria Sosa, Raul Duran, Kenny Santiago Marrero, and Luis Galicia in the cast.
The plays runs Fridays-Sundays through March 15, with shows at 7:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30pm on Sunday. It takes place at the LatinUs Black Box Theater at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance, and Expression. The play is in Spanish with projected super titles in English. Go here for tickets.
