The Bainbridge Swing Dances, held monthly at the Family Life Center in Chagrin Falls, are a great chance for all sorts of people to have fun, learn some dance steps, hear some great live music and meet some new people. You don’t have to have ever stepped on a dance floor before: things get going at 7pm with a lesson to teach you all the basic steps. The regulars are friendly and always willing to help the newbies.
At 8pm, the musicians hit the stage and the dance floor is open, with some of the best regional bands providing music with danceable rhythms. This month, the Radio Rhythm IDOLS are back, featuring by multi-instrumentalist Paul Kovac, who has fronted country/bluegrass bands such as Hillbilly Idol for decades; guitarist/vocalist/keyboard player Carrie King; and young Akron honky-tonk guitarist/vocalist Cory Grinder. This ensemble draws on a wide range of music with a danceable beat, including western swing, ’40s and ’50s R&B, rockabilly and Great American Songbook standards.
Once the band breaks down 10:30, those who aren’t tired can hang around for a recent added feature, the Electro disco, with recorded music, strobes, lasers and black lights, until 11pm.
Come as a single, a pair or a family, and don’t worry if you didn’t bring anyone: in this type of dancing, people change partners all night long. Admission is $15 at the door, $10 per child or $40 per family. Get more information here.
