Northeast Ohio musician Nathan-Paul has an impressive and diverse background. The flute and saxophone player/composer grew up singing gospel in church, adding influences of funk and soul to his music, and digging deep into jazz when he earned a degree in jazz studies at the University of Akron. He delved deep into old-school soul when he led the horn section for Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites and serving as music director for Wesley Bright & the Honeytones who were setting local dance floors on fire in the 20teens. At the same time, he was rocking stages with his own band Nathan-Paul & the Admirables, a mostly instrumental ensemble with a strong funk feel.
He was born and raised in Cleveland Heights, and he’ll be back there to celebrate his birthday, when he performs at EDWINS, this time displaying his jazz chips, when he performs with a quartet that features three other of the area’s celebrated jazz musicians: Theron Brown on piano, Zaire Darden on drums, representing the rising generation, and veteran bassist Kip Reed whose roster of “playing with” is virtually endless.
The event features dinner, cocktails and the concert. Reservations are highly recommended. Go here.
