Author Paula McLain struck gold with her 2011 historical fiction novel The Paris Wife, based on the story of writer Ernest Himingway’s real-life first wife, written from her perspective. It made The New York Times bestseller list, and now her novels are prominently displayed in airports across the country. She’s written four more novels since then including her new Skylark in which she returns to historical fiction — and Paris. But before she every published a novel, she put out two books of poetry and a 2003 memoir of her difficult upbringing, a story in many ways similar to that of Ohio gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton.
McLain is in fact from Ohio and lives in Cleveland, not Paris. And this week she’ll be at the Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Parma-Snow branch where she’ll be in conversation with author Claire McMillan, who is co-curating an exhibit at Cleveland’s MoCa based on her book Alchemy of a Blackbird.
Each ticket includes a copy of the Skylark and a donation to the CCPL Foundation. Additional books will be available for purchase courtesy of Mac’s Backs — Books on Coventry. Go here for tickets.
