The idea that libraries are just about checking out books is way outdated. For instance, If you’re a musician and think that making a recording or video is out of your budget, the Cuyahoga County Public Library has resources to help. Four of its branches — Garfield Heights, South Euclid-Lyndhurst, Strongsville and Warrensville Heights — have recording equipment to record songs, green screen videos, podcasts and audiobook recordings. That includes a soundproof recording booth, Mac computers, GarageBand audio editing software, microphone, keyboard DAW controller and Adobe Creative Suite including Adobe Audition CC audio editing software.
Strongsville resident and veteran country artist Paul Cody used the library’s resources to record most of his latest album New Beginning. He recorded the backing vocals, acoustic guitars, harmonica and violin at the Strongsville branch. He says that the library’s studio was “such a money savings, and a time savings for me” and “It was just such a welcoming atmosphere–that made recording the album that much easier, too.”
Any library customer interested in using the equipment is required to take a short orientation and fill out a written user agreement before they can reserve space during regular library hours. Any Ohio resident can use the gear by applying for a library card here.
