Cleveland Public Theatre has long been known for presenting theater pieces in all stages of development from readings to full productions, often presenting the same work as it unfolded from a rough idea to a fully realized evening of theater.
One of the programs it created recently is called SoftLaunch, which CPT called its “most experimental artistic development program to date…that seeks to reinvent what theater and art can be.” It presents its second year this weekend with more than 20 experimental performances and art installations which start in the lobbies, hallways and other spaces outside the theater proper. Patrons will see both in all stages of development — some new, some evolved over time. Some pieces will be like an art exhibit where viewers can come and going, while other are timed performances presented several times over the evening.
The cast of creators includes CPT’s Executive Artistic Director, Raymond Bobgan, Day Ash, Sherrine Azab, Sierra Delaine, Monique Donesia, Ryan William Downey, Aja Joi Grant, Clifton Holznagel, Carol Laursen & Emily Liptow, Sullivan Ratcliff, Cassandra Ziemer and Erin Zoretich, Nick Eaton, Zelda Thayer-Hansen, Ramon Rivas II, Gwydion Suilebhan, Denmo Ibrahim & Lila Rachel Becker, Martinique Mims, Naomi Lord, Diana Sette, Anastasía Urozhaeva, Selena Awesome Vicarío and Jimmie Woody.
