Thu 9/18-Fri 9/26

The Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival is back for the 14th year, “celebrating Black film, life and culture.” It kicks off Thursday September 18 with an opening night film and reception at Karamu House, before moving to the Shaker Square Atlas Theater for a huge variety of films all days Friday September 18 through Monday September 21: documentaries, narrative feature films and shorts. In some cases, the filmmakers will be present. The schedule is also dotted with social get-togethers at nearby venues.

Things start to wind down on Thursday September 25 with the free Reel Renaissance Mixer outdoors on Shaker Square. The closing night ceremony on Friday September 26 at 6pm will feature awards and a screening of Can You Stand the Rain, a 2025 film about childhood friends reuniting after the death of one of their group. It takes place at the Cleveland Public Library’s Martin Luther King Branch in University Circle.
