Gypsy Swing Brunch Brings 1930s Parisian-Style Sound to the Music Box

Sun 9/28 @ noon (doors 11am)

“Hot club” jazz, sometimes called Gypsy jazz, the style of music pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli in Paris in the 1930s, has had a loooooong afterlife. Their band, Quintette du Hot Club de France, has spawned countless “hot clubs” of this and that all over the world since. Yes, there was a “Hot Club of Cleveland” for a while.

Now there’s another local band performing that much-loved style, called the Forest City Django Club, featuring violinist Greg Smith, guitarists Brad Smedley and Steve Karla, accordion player Caroline King and bassist Max Hyde-Perry. They’ll be playing at the Music Box Supper Club for their weekly Sunday brunch, for a “Gypsy Swing Brunch,” where they’ll be joined by guest vocalist Kara Scott.

You can just get a ticket to the show, or buy the buffet brunch. Go here for tickets.
