Once again, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) is hosting its Clean Water Fest, an event that’s both educational and entertaining. Come out to its Southerly Wastewater Treatment Center on Saturday — bring the whole family, especially that teenager who’s always lecturing you about how single-used plastics get into our waterways — and learn what is being done to protect out water supply.
You can take a 45-minute walking tour of the facility to see the work in action—they leave every 15 minutes from 9:30am-3:30pm. Register at the tours tent when you arrive. (You need to wear hard-sole closed-toe shoes). There are also two five-mile bicycle tours of the treatment center and surrounding trails — advance registration online is required.
Be sure to check out booths offering information on clean water and other environmental issues to learn how it’s all interconnected and the impact it has on our health. At 1pm you can listen in on a “women in science” panel discussion featuring three women who works at the treatment center.
But there’s also pure fun: games and prizes, a kids’ zone with hand-on activities, the Fab Lab Mad Scientists Show, a comic book giveaway and a chance to meet the artists, a touch-a-truck opportunity, free popcorn, and even the ultimate surefire kid pleaser — face painting. A food truck will be onsite will food available for purchase to keep you fueled, but admission to the event is free.
