For those who don’t relish the drive out to Blossom Music Center, as lovely as it is, in recent years, the Cleveland Orchestra has been feeding its fans’ appetite for off-season music with its Summers at Severance series.
This week the orchestra, led by young (35 years old) French conductor and music director of the Royal Danish Orchestra, Marie Jacquot, will fuel that appetite with a double hit of Mozart and a big gulp of Strauss. It’ll open the evening with Mozart’s Overture to his 1787 opera Don Giovanni, followed by his 1775 Violin Concerto No. 3, with 29-year-old American violinist Randall Goosby in the soloist role. It will conclude with Richard Strauss’s early work, Symphony No. 2 in F minor, written when the composer was just 19.
