Thu 6/12 @ 4-10PM
If you’re getting ready to attend the big Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, you can whet your appetite a bit with a smaller, more neighborhood-scaled event at the Near West Theatre Plaza.
Near West Theatre has put together an evening of performances to celebrate this holiday marking the day in 1865 when the last slaves (in Texas) were freed. The Golden Cyphers Youth Drummers get things started at 4:30, followed by the Near West Theatre Youth Performers at 5, the Blakk Jakk Dance Collective at 6, PM DOC Studios poetry and spoken word at 6:30, and live music from Foxx & Co. at 8. Yum Village’s food truck will be on site, and of course there are a ton of restaurants within a few hundred feet of Near West Theatre so you won’t starve!
It’s free and open to all.
