Friends Gather to Celebrate the Life of Cleveland Blues Guitarist Donny Baker

Sun 6/8 @ 3PM

Blues-influenced guitarist Donny Baker was a fixture on the Cleveland music scene since the 1960s. He played with numerous bands starting with teen band the Missing Lynx in the 1960s, and including The Case of E.T Hooley, Rainbow Canyon, the Jimmy Ley Band, the Mr. Stress Blues Band, the Jim Miller Band, the Rockside Band, and Madison Crawl, among others. He helped host blues jams such as the Bad Boys of Blues Jam and Alan Greene’s Sunday Night Jam at Cebar’s. He also taught at area music stores as well as in California for a couple of decades.

He passed away May 19 at the age of 78. His friends will be remembering him with a celebration of his life at the Music Box, featuring an afternoon of music from Butch Armstrong & family, the Alan Greene Band Anthony Lovano’s blues All Stars, Austin Walkin’ Cane, the Rockside Band, the Chuck Hamilton Band, Madison Crawl and Charlie Christopherson. Undoubtedly there will be some jams!

Doors open at 2; music starts at 3. It’s free and open to all. The club is asking for reservations to make sure they have enough seats. They say “Our reservation system can only display one show per date and lists Blues Brunch. Please ignore that and select your arrival time, 2pm or later.” Go here.
