The next two weekends are the biggest of the year for plant sales — at farmer’s markets, community gardens, coffeeshops and churches, among other places.
If you’d like to go somewhere this weekend with a great selection of plants of all kinds — vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals and more, stop by the sale at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes from 11am-3pm Saturday May 10 (members can shop from 10-11am) or in the Akron area, the sale at Crown Pointe Ecology Center from 10am-4pm May 10 and 11, and next Saturday May 17.
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes will be offering a large selection of native plants, in keeping with its mission to promote a sustainable environment. All money raised will go to further their mission.
Crown Pointe also focuses on environmentally friendly growing, so all of the plants offered at its 20th annual spring plant sale are certified organic. They’ll be offering native perennials, heirloom and hybrid vegetables, culinary herbs and organic gardening supplies. Their seedlings are started by their own farm managers and crew according to strict organic growing principles. Cash and checks are preferred although they do accept credit cards with an additional fee.
