In recent years, many people have become more thoughtful about how they landscape their homes. Some have replaced standard garden center plants with natives, and others have even given up the old-fashioned manicured green lawn in favor of wildflowers, shrubs, rain basins and even raised vegetable beds, changes that can make the surrounding ecosystem friendlier and more sustainable for wildlife and insects such as pollinators.
Interested in joining the movement? Come out to the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes for a program called “The Everyday Conservationist: Nurturing Nature at Home,” hosted by conservation educator, photographer and writer Danae Wolfe, author of a soon-to-be-published book called Grass Isn’t Greener. She’ll guide participants in how to reimagine their own outdoor spaces in a way that’s both sustainable and attractive.
