Lebanese Family Trio Makes Music Across Generations at CMA

Wed 4/9 @ 7PM

Marcel Khalife is a 74-year-old Lebanese vocalist, composer and oud player who has been called “the Bob Dylan of the Middle East” for his politically oriented folk ballads and protest songs. He’s also a soundtrack, orchestral and dance composer who has released nearly two dozen albums, displaying a wide range of musicl interests and mstery of both Western and Middle Eastern musical languages. And like Dylan, he’s passed some of his talent to his son, Juilliard-educated pianist Rami Khalife. And his nephew Sary Khalife, a cellist, has been brushed by the family’s musical gifts as well.

The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Arab Americans of Cleveland—Young Professionals Network are presenting the three Khalifes in concert at CMA’s Gartner Auditorium as a trio called Legacy, performing a selection of Khalife’s most beloved works.
