Sat 4/20 @ 7PM

The Cleveland-based Contemporary Youth Orchestra, which provides a professional-level musical experience for talented teenage musicians from across the region, giving them the opportunity to work with professional composers and songwriters on performances of their works, some of them new commissions.

Another opportunity it offers the young musicians is its annual solo competition, whose winner is featured at its spring Chamber Showcase concert. The season 29 winner is cellist Matthew Huang, who’ll perform Holst’s Invocation. The concert will also include the premieres of seven pieces written by orchestra members as part of its C Y We Writer program, which paired students with professional composers to guide them through the process of writing a work for a chamber ensemble. And it will perform bass/baritone Jonathan Woody’s 2021 neo-baroque Suite for String Orchestra Based on the Works of Charles Ignatius Sancho, a partnership with Cleveland’s Les Delices chamber orchestra.

The performance takes place at Tri-C East’s Mandel Theatre. Go here for more info and tickets.
