One of the Akron Symphony’s most popular concerts — and one of its most community-facing — is its annual Gospel Meets Symphony evening, taking place as usual at the University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. Each year the Gospel Meets Symphony Choir is assembled from outstanding voices coming from churches across the Akron area. And the Gospel Meets Symphony 2.0 Choir features the next generation’s powerhouse singers.
The concert itself is composed of gospel tunes and other inspiration songs for an uplifting and exhilarating evening. ASO music director Christopher Wilkins conducts the orchestra, while Jonathan Turner, a pastor, singer, composer and educator who serves on the voice faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and is the director of choral studies at Lutheran High School East, is in his fourth season as the choirmaster who hones those disparate voices to unified perfection,
