Some holiday happenings are predictable: there will be productions of A Christmas Carol. There will be Messiah sings. And of course there will be Nutcrackers. Even when Cleveland didn’t have a resident company, there was sure to be a visiting company bringing a production to town.
Now, of course, we’ve got the Cleveland Ballet in residence at Playhouse Square, where they will perform their version of The Nutcracker at the Palace Theatre a dozen times over the next two weeks.
How much more do you need to know about this classic, set to music by Russia composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Every little girl who’s taken even a year of ballet knows the music and the plot and dreams of being a snowflake or, if really ambitious, the Sugarplum Fairy. For kids who take their dancing seriously, it’s often their first public performance, playing a guest at the first-act holiday party.
And it’s worth going just to se the little girl dressed in their holiday finery. Get tickets here.
