This Year’s Ingenuity Festival Explores Earth’s Beauty and Resources

Fri 9/22 @ 6PM

Sat 9/23 @ 1PM

Sun 9/24 @ 1PM

What can you say about Cleveland’s Ingenuity Festival at this point except that if you don’t know about this unique weekend-long feast of creativity, you need to update your sources.

The first Ingenuity Festival took place in 2005 with the goal of uniting the arts and technology and activating underused spaces in downtown Cleveland. Most of those spaces — East 4th Street, Public Square, Playhouse Square — sat mostly empty then but are now thoroughly activated. And Ingenuity moved into its own dedicated space, the Ingenuity Labs in the Hamilton Collaborative, on the eastern edge of AsiaTown.

That allows the festival to work on projects year round and work on a scale that previously would’ve been out of the question (as their scaled-down, one-day, pandemic-driven event, at Gordon Park in 2021 showed). So expect to see space after space of spectacular environments on multiple levels across the sprawling building, with an array of performances on stages and spaces throughout.  There’ll be a dizzying range of things to do and art activities to try, as well as local vendors, organizations and entrepreneurs to chat with.

This year’s theme is Biologies and Geologies, “dedicated to rebirth, and a celebration of our singular planet’s resources and wonders.” This year’s Ingenuity, they promise, “will explore how human innovation interacts with communities across earth, air and water,” with “crystal caverns, aquatic landscapes and more, at once whimsical and wholly serious in its dedication to environmental stewardship, sustainability and innovation and human invention.”

Stop down on Friday, Saturday or Sunday or come back again, because you won’t be able to take it all in on one day.
