SPACES’ Monster Drawing Rally is crazy, freeform fun, a chance for artists to create and socialize, and a chance for art lovers to meet artists and grab a piece of their work, while benefiting the work SPACES does. And this year is the 11th for the fun fundraiser.

For this event, artists sign up to work one of three one-hour shifts to create art on the spot; they’re expecting more than 80 area artists, ranging from art students to some of the area’s best known artist, to participate. As they finish each piece, volunteers hang it on the wall and visitors dash to claim the pieces they’d like to buy — everything is $75 and the fastest claimant gets the piece. People kibbitz their favorite artists so they can get there as soon as a piece goes up.

SPACES provides paper and art supplies, although many artists bring their own, especially artists who push the boundaries of “drawing.” We’ve seen people create collages, sculptures and other non-drawing work.

Doors open at 1pm; first round runs from 1:30-2:30, with the second from 2:45-3:45 and the last from 4-5pm. There’ll be Mitchell’s ice cream and freshly popped popcorn available, as well as a bar with pop, beer and ice water. There’ll also be raffles and an area for kids to draw and do crafts.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Kids under 18 are free.
