Kent Architect Talks About Restoring Historic Downtown Kent Hotel

Tue 6/20 @ 7PM

Acorn Corner on Main Street in the heart of downtown Kent is home to restaurants, apartments, and offices, and shops in the adjacent Acorn Alley. But once upon a time it was an elegant hotel called the Franklin Hotel, Kent’s tallest building, where many famous people were alleged to have stayed.

Like many buildings erected in the early 20th century, it was neglected and in danger of being demolished until just recently, it underwent a renaissance. Those interested in historical preservation can hear the whole story of what went down from Kent architect and advocate for preservation Doug Fuller when he shares the history at a Tap Talk at Kent’s North Water Brewing. It was his firm that redesigned the hotel for modern use.

“We will also talk about other ways that guests were housed in Kent, from the Cuyahoga House, to the Lincoln Tavern, to the Central Hotel, and others,” says Fuller. The talk is free, and you can partake of some local artisan ales and beers while you listen.
