INTERVIEW: Exclusive CoolCleveland Interview With Lisa Marie Presley

On November 6, 2012, Lisa Marie Presley stepped outside of a noisy Nashville restaurant to take CoolCleveland’s call and talk about her new album, her new tour and her new direction in life. Listen to the exclusive interview with CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready here.

After waiting till the age of 35 to release her first album (“I came out kicking and biting…” she says), Presley followed it up quickly with another critically acclaimed pop album. But now, 7 years since her last release, she’s taken a left turn. “I destroyed what was around me and I re-built my life,” she says.

Disenchanted with her life in Los Angeles, she moved her family to the outskirts of London and started writing songs with British songwriters such as Sacha Scarbeck, Ed Harcourt, and Richard Hawley, among others. “It’s been ironic. The English love Americans, Americana and rootsy music. They really honor that in a way that felt real to me.”

The remarkable Storm & Grace was produced by T-Bone Burnett, who produced Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Grammy-winning Raising Sand, in a solid roots/Americana style. “Thank God T-Bone heard these songs and wanted to do it. We did 16 songs in 12 days…live. I’m proud of it because it’s so organic.”

Presley talks about her new album, Storm & Grace: “The new record shows my de-evolution: there’s definitely anger, sadness, reflection… that’s just the way life is sometimes.”
