Groundworks Dance Returns to Akron’s Firestone Park for Free Concerts

GroundWorks DanceTheater has its usual round of summer shows, performing  at Cain Park in July and at Akron’s Firestone Park iin August as part of the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival.

This summer they’ll be debuting the world premiere of works by choreographers Rena Butler and GroundWorks’ own Nicole Hennington. That work, titled As I Am, was inspired by an episode of Modern Love about bipolar disorder. The program will also feature an updated version of Aperture, created in 2019 by GroundWorks’ Executive Artistic Director David Shimotakahara’s Aperture, based on works in the Akron Art Museum’s collection.

The company will also be introducing new company dancers Ahna Bonnette and Matthew Saggiomo.
