It’s a Klezmer-Palooza at the BOP STOP

Sat 1/29 @2PM & 8PM

Today the BOP STOP will be filled all afternoon and evening with klezmer music, the distinctive mournful but lively music of central and eastern European Jews, which began to evolve in the middle ages and is a staple at Jewish weddings, parties and bar/bat mitzvahs today.

In the afternoon, noted local violinist Steven Greenman will lead a klezmer workshop for musicians and vocalists of all ages and skill levels. He’ll share the knowledge he’s gained in many decades as a professional performing and teaching artist. It’s free and open to all, although current Music Settlement students get preference. Registration is required; email request to music@TheMusicSettlement.org with “Klezmer Workshop” in the subject line.

Then at 8pm, Greenman and his trio, featuring accordionist Walt Mahovlich and bassist Henry Samuels, will perform. Tickets are $20 and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required. You can also listen to the livestream on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page; it’s free but donations are appreciated.
