Slavic Village’s Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus Throws a Polish Festival

Fri 10/8-Sun 10/10

One of the area’s most beautiful churches is the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus in Slavic Village. In addition to holding masses in both English and Polish, the lavish building hosts concerts by groups such as CityMusic Cleveland.

It also hosts its annual Polish festival, which takes place at its social center — but church tours are among the activities and shouldn’t be missed. The three-day festival celebrates all aspects of Polish cultures: the food (naturally), the crafts, the music, the worship.

On Friday evening, dinner (pierogi, kielbasa, czarnina and much more) is served from 5-9pm with a church tour at 7. And since it’s Polka Night, a host of polka legends will be joined the band Rewind to provide lively live music. Saturday’s dinner is served from 4-9pm with mass at 5pm and a church tour following. John Cora will provide music to accompany eating, drinking, games and shopping Polish vendors. Finally on Sunday there are English masses at 830 and 11:30am (the latter a grand spectacle with trumpets, organ and timpani) and a Polish mass at 10am. There’s another church tour following the last mass. You can eat from 11am-5pm and enjoy music by Uptown Sounds @ 1-5pm. The grand prize drawing concludes the festivities @ 6pm.
