Kaiser Gallery Group Show Looks at Pandemic with a Surrealist Eye

“Insurrection” by Andrew Ellis Johnson

Sat 8/14-Sun 10/10

Tremont has lost a lot of galleries since its heyday as an art neighborhood. But there’s a new kid on Professor Avenue now: the Kaiser Gallery, which describes itself as a “contemporary gallery and cocktail lounge with a “dedication to the visual arts with libations to create a unique atmosphere that can readily bring art to new audiences while still serving our artists in their artistic endeavors.”

Its new group show, The Weight of Time, brings a flavor of introspective surrealism to the topic of the global pandemic in works Chad Eby, Danny Greene, Andrew Ellis Johnson, Matt Milligan, Haumed Rahmani, and Nowhere Mountain. They work in a variety of media from painting and photography to sound, film and “generative weaving,” and hail from Kentucky, New York, Missouri, Utah, Pennsylvania and Cleveland. They have lots of wordy thoughts you can read on Kaiser’s website or you can just stop in, have a drink and see the work.
