Akron Civic Takes Over Booking and Managing Goodyear Theater

The East End, a mixed-use redevelopment project on the old Goodyear Tire & Rubber campus, includes, among other things, the Goodyear Theater, with a capacity of just under 1500. Now the East End has come to an agreement with the Akron Civic Theatre for the civic to book and run the Goodyear Theater.  Akron Civic executive director Howard Parr will coordinate programming, which they promise will be diverse.

“The Goodyear Theater is an anchor institution within our development,” says Stuart Lichter, co-developer of the East end with Chrstopher Semarjian, in a press release. “We look forward to an active schedule there working with The Civic, which has proven success with community-based programming, and Live Nation, the world-wide leader in the entertainment industry.”

The first upcoming show at Goodyear Theater is the endless Happy Together Tour featuring the Turtles, Gary Puckett of the Union Gap and the Association among others; that’s on Sunday August 15. After t hat the theater has a packed schedule of oldies: Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings (9/2), Blue Oyster Cult (9/24), Brian Wilson with special guest Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin (10/20) and prog rockers Dream Theater (11/12).
