Local Art Collector/Promoter Fred Bidwell Talks About Making Art Accessible

Sun 4/18 @ 3-4PM

Fred Bidwell had a 35-year career in advertising and marketing before retiring and with his wife, photographer Laura Ruth Bidwell, founded the Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Foundation, which built on their long-time interest in collecting photography-based art.

You can see evidence of their role in the local art community in a gallery with their name at the Akron Art Museum, at Cleveland’s Transformer Station, which they opened in 2013 to curate shows in rotation with the Cleveland Museum of Art. Fred Bidwell has been Akron Art Museum board president (twice), served as interim director of the Cleveland Museum of Art following the sudden departure of its director, and founded the region-wide, months-long FRONT International Triennal, which will have its second edition in 2022.

Bidwell will be the next speaker in Fairmount Center for the Arts’ Pull Back the Curtain series. He’ll address “Making Creativity Pervasive in Our Communities,” which, given how ubiquitous he is, is appropriate.

The free program takes place on Zoom. Register to attend here.
