78th Street Studio Third Friday Grows a Little More

Fri 9/18 @ 5-8PM

It may be a while before 78th Street Studios’ Third Fridays are back to the major social events they used to be, where sometimes thousands of art lovers made their way through the building’s four floors, dropping in on galleries, businesses and artists’ studios and hanging out with friends met along the way.

But the events are slowly and carefully growing, in a crowd size-limited, mask-required kind of way. Each month a few more doors are open, and exhibition openings are starting to come back (there’s one at E11even2 Gallery this month and another on the top floor at Survival Kit). You’ll find more of the artists and shops you’ve come to look forward to seeing — more than two dozen — and the Northcoast Promotions market has returned, with a handful of vendors in the SmARTspace and another handful on the Ramp level, to avoid crowding. Susie Frazier, whose shop featuring nature-based art has been closed since February, will be having a sidewalk sale in the parking lot outside the main entrance. There’s even music again, with singer/guitarist Moises Borges playing his Brazilian jazz.

There’ll be plenty of hand sanitizer both at the door and around the building, and masks will be available for anyone who forgot theirs. Admission is $5; 50% of the ticket money goes to the participating businesses and artists.

And if you can’t make it, log onto 78th Street Studios’ Facebook page between 7-8pm for both live and pre-recorded clips about the resident businesses, galleries and studios and visit Third Friday virtually.
