Praxis Fiber Worshop is forging ahead with its exhibition schedule but in a slightly different way. Its next show, Daylily by Lucy Bailey, will have a virtual Zoom opening. Bailey is Praxis’ 2019-2020 Emerging Artist Fellow. She’s a 2019 Cleveland Institute of Art graduate with a double major in painting and printmaking.
She says in her Daylily artist statement, “I chose the title Daylily because, like a daylily, I want my work to express a moment of beauty, this flash of bright color in the midst of settings which for me can induce anxiety: poking through guardrails on freeways, planted outside Big Box stores, growing abandoned in a world of asphalt. Like a daylily, I want to evoke the feeling of hopefulness blooming out of an overwhelming and troubled world.”
