NE Ohio Has Copious Literary Resources for the Housebound

Now that we’re stuck in the house for at least another month, it’s a great time to re-discover reading. Pull out that list you stashed of books you wanted to read someday. Someday is now! And a good book can take you away from all this. A really good book can make time fly so you look up and next thing you know it’s dinner time already.

This week we’re spotlighting our local independent bookstores — which really need your support now, more than ever. Loganberry Books, Macs Backs and Visible Voice Books all give you the ability to search for millions of titles, and if they don’t have it, they can get it for you — and they’ll ship it to your door. Our currently closed library systems are offering a range of online services and programs, including eBooks, films, storytimes for kids, and free access to resources that normally would have a fee.

We’re featuring some books written by local authors, ranging from graphic horror novels to Senator Sherrod Brown’s new book about the lives of the men who sat at his desk in the senate chamber before him. Local publisher Belt Publishing has a whole catalog of books that shed light on the history, politics and culture of the Midwest, while Baldwin Wallace professor/comedian/writer has just released the latest in his series of books spotlighting LGTQ culture in Ohio’s major metropolises.

Finally, don’t forget to check out reading-and-writing programs offered by Lake Erie Ink (mostly for young people) and Literary Cleveland (mostly for adults) — now all online. You could easily fill a month or more with the literary resources being offered by northeast Ohio writers, organizations and businesses!
