Jazz Guitarist Dan Bruce Brings New Ensemble Lippel:Plank:Bruce to BOP STOP

Tue 9/24 @ 7PM

Jazz guitarist Dan Bruce earned his masters in jazz studies from the University of North Texas’s renowned music program, then relocated to Chicago in 2007 where he was music department chair at the Chicago Academy for the Arts for eight years and part of that city’s active jazz scene. For some reason he then decided to move to Cleveland where he’s become a prominent member of the music community, performing with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, :beta collective and We Three Qings, and teaching at Tri-C.

He looked east for one of the collaborators on his newest project, Lippel:Plank:Bruce. Classically trained New York guitarist Dan Lippel is a noted performer on both electric and acoustic guitars, with a range that covers classical music, jazz, experimental music and indie rock. The “Plank” is Oberlin-based jazz bass player Aidan Plank, who is very familiar to Cleveland audiences.

They’ll be joined by special guests, trombone player Chris Anderson, sax player Noa Even and drummer Nathan Douds.

The performance will consist of new compositions and free improvisations that the ensemble will be spending the rest of the week recording for release on New York’s New Focus Records, a label co-founded by Lippel.

Admission is $15.
