Fri 8/9-Sun 8/11
Bands that live by touring, especially jam-style bands, often host their own festivals, bringing together bands they’re played/partied with on the road and, since their friends reciprocate, giving the bands a string of summer dates.
One such band is Cleveland’s Tropidelic, who have been on the touring circuit for a decade (They formed in 2007). They aren’t exactly a jam band, but they play a genre that might be called “jam adjacent” — the no-holds-barred amalgam of funk, hip-hop, reggae, rock and even a little jazz and metal that became popular at fraternity parties in the 90s and reached its peak with bands like 311 and Sublime. But as with jam music, the party has never stopped.
And the party will be in full swing when Tropidelic hosts its third annual Freakstomp three-day party, being held this year for the first time at the Clear Fork Adventure Resort Butler, Ohio (near Mansfield). There you’ll see this high-energy six-piece ensemble pull out all the stops to demonstrate to hometown fans why they’ve been able to keep audiences across the country on their feet and grooving., undoubtedly focusing quite a bit on their sixth studio release Here in the Heights which came out earlier this summer.
Not only will you get to hear both electric and acoustic sets by Tropidelic, but more than a dozen other artists, picked for their appeal to the headliner’s fans, including Too Many Zoos, Bumpin Uglies, Mike Pinto, Jon Wayne & the Pain and Shrub, on two stages. There’s also circus-type performers and other entertainment around the grounds. Is there camping? Of course!
